Speaks Out

UCLA students discuss their experiences participating in research projects through the Undergraduate Research Center.

Lisa Douglass Fourth-year, English – “I worked with my thesis advisor and I did a young adult novella on the impact of bullying in schools. … It really is a privilege to be at UCLA and have all of these resources. … (The Undergraduate Research Center) made the process (of finding research) so easy.”

Freddy Yusuf Fourth-year, psychobiology  – “I investigate whether practicing tai chi … increases daily physical activity (and) can enhance the general overall quality of life. In the (research) experience, I can work closely with the faculty mentor, and I can use whatever I learn (in class) and (apply it) to real life.”

Maya Wilson Fourth-year, political science -“I would highly suggest that everyone use their time with advisors at UCLA because that was one of my best resources: Having a great advisor help me formulate my (research) topic. … If you have any future in academia, it’s worth learning from the experts. I’m really glad I did.”
