Men’s basketball recruits shooting guard Matt Carlino, former Indiana commit

Shooting guard and former Indiana commit plans on graduating early, enrolling at UCLA

Ben Howland has added a fourth men’s basketball recruit to his class of 2010.

Matt Carlino, a 6-foot-2-inch shooting guard from Bloomington South High School in Indiana, will join the Bruins next year, according to reports. Carlino joins a recruiting class that includes shooting guard Tyler Lamb, combo guard Lazeric Jones and center Josh Smith.

Currently a junior, Carlino plans to graduate early and enroll at UCLA this year. After verbally committing to coach Tom Crean at Indiana, he reopened his recruitment in March.

Originally from Gilbert, Ariz., Carlino played his first two years of high school basketball at Gilbert Highland before committing to Indiana and moving to Bloomington with his family. He averaged 13.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game for Bloomington South this season.

UCLA Athletics could not comment, citing restrictions on speaking about student-athletes that have not signed letters-of-intent.
