A man riding a motor scooter died during a collision with a car at the intersection in front of De Neve Plaza around 11 a.m., police said.
Neither the victim nor the driver of the car is believed to be a UCLA student. The victim was in his late 30s and was a visitor to campus, police said. He was transported by ambulance to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the car, a white 2003 Acura, was evaluated at the scene for impairment and was then released.
Police could not confirm the cause of the accident or whether the driver of either vehicle was impaired. Police said an investigation into the cause of the accident is forthcoming.
