Students film UCLA version of “Harlem Shake” YouTube craze

Hundreds of UCLA students converged on Bruin Plaza Wednesday afternoon to film a version of the “Harlem Shake,” a video meme that has swept YouTube in the past week. The videos, which are approximately 30 seconds long, begin with one individual doing a subdued dance in a public place before cutting to a shot of a larger group dancing as the beat drops.

In response to a USC version of the video posted three days ago, third-year music student Sean Matusich organized a Facebook event calling students to gather at Bruin Plaza at 12:15 PM on Wednesday afternoon to film a de facto “official” UCLA version of the video. Hundreds of excited students arrived dressed in colorful costumes. The filming took approximately ten minutes.
