UCLA women’s golf will compete in the Pac-12 Championships Monday, and the team will be close to home as it plays in nearby Valencia.
The No. 7 Bruins haven’t won the Pac-12 title since 2008, although they have won a national title since then. UCLA will have to go up against lofty competition, including five top-20 teams.
USC has been a consistent rival for UCLA in golf, and since the Trojans are the No. 1 team in the country the Bruins will be working hard to take them down.
This season, UCLA has struggled, especially in the fall when it didn’t have its star senior Tiffany Lua. But since her return from a wrist injury, the Bruins have gotten steadily better, now taking their place in the top 10.
Golf is at its heart an individual sport, and beyond the team rankings, the individual ones also show how strong the Pac-12 is. Ten players from within the conference are in the top 25, once again led off by the red and gold – freshman Annie Park of USC has the top spot.
After a tough season, UCLA will try to make up ground and take the conference title. This marks the start of the postseason, where the Bruins will try to make a run now that they find themselves among the country’s top teams again.
Competition will take place over the next three days at the Valencia Country Club.
