GSA Meeting Roundup – May 8


The UCLA Graduate Student Association is the voice of graduate students on campus. The association meets for forum every three weeks and takes positions on current issues affecting graduate students. Forum meetings are at 5:30 p.m. in the Ackerman Viewpoint Lounge.

Agenda

  • The council approved a motion to amend the minutes from April 17 to show that the Social Sciences Council voiced concerns about reopening the elections.

  • Daniel Goodman, the GSA commissioner of elections, presented the new graduate student government elections results to the forum. The forum approved the results with a 14-5 vote.

  • The forum announced upcoming events, including a sustainable research showcase that will held by the GSA Sustainable Resource Center this Tuesday.

Officer Reports

  • GSA President David Zeke met with the dean from the UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television to try to make the schedule for Melnitz Movies more regular. Zeke said he also met with the Associated Students UCLA Communications Board and invited them to meet with him in the future.

  • Vanessa Thulsiraj, GSA vice president of internal affairs, encouraged forum members to participate in the Diversity Symposium next week.

  • GSA Vice President of Academic Affairs Nicole Robinson said she spoke with Common Collaboration and Learning Environment administrators to discuss the barring of students from past coursework on CCLE two weeks into a new quarter. Robinson also said that she plans to reopen the call for applications for GSA positions with stipends until next Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. and to send out another email to graduate students.

  • Dani Molina, GSA vice president of external affairs, said his office will be advertising the Los Angeles mayoral election.
