Weekend Predictions: May 30 – June 1

Every Friday, The Bruin Sports section will predict the outcome of the weekend’s top UCLA sporting events.

Track and field: NCAA championships – Preliminary round (Thursday to Saturday)

It’s difficult to predict track and field’s performance in the NCAA championships this weekend considering the meet is dominated by individual events. Of the two relay teams in the West Regional, neither will likely move on to the NCAA championships. However, UCLA will likely advance six athletes to the semifinals – of these, redshirt senior discus thrower Julian Wruck, senior pole vaulter Mike Woepse, junior jumper Kylie Price and sophomore middle distance runner Nick Hartle are expected to move forward.

Rowing: NCAA championships (Friday to Sunday)

UCLA has advanced to the NCAA championships in each of its last two seasons, finishing ninth in 2013. The team’s eighth-place finish two years ago was the program’s best; however, with its current ninth-place ranking, the team is likely to finish ninth place yet again in the NCAAs.

2014 prediction record to date: 15-15
