An undergraduate student government office is putting on a panel Tuesday night to discuss intimate partner violence in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community.

The Undergraduate Students Association Council Student Wellness Commission will host the event, called “LGBTQ Partner Violence Awareness Panel,” in 2422 Boelter Hall from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The event is meant to relate to Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which takes place in October, according to the event’s Facebook page.

The goal of the event is to show the nuances of reporting issues specific to LGBTQ partners, said Savannah Badalich, USAC Student Wellness commissioner.

“There (are) a lot of myths about intimate partner violence in the LGBTQ community,” Badalich said. “We want to talk about a large chunk of (intimate partner) violence that does not get reported.”

Speakers will include Mieko Failey and Anabel Martinez from the Los Angeles LGBT Center. Kiara Lee, a Campus Assault Resources and Education manager at UCLA Counseling and Psychological Services, will also speak at the event.
