Firefighters rescued a person who was stuck in an elevator shaft in Hedrick Hall Tuesday night.

The Los Angeles Fire Department received a call at 9:45 p.m. about a person who was pinned to gearing equipment between the ground floor and the floor of the elevator shaft, said LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

Firefighters used airbags and other equipment to rescue the person, who was then transported to the hospital in fair condition, Stewart added.

It is unknown if the person is a UCLA student and firefighters are currently investigating how the person became trapped in the elevator shaft.
