The news cycle is fast, and we at the Daily Bruin don’t always have time to delve deeper into the stories we write. “In the Know” is a new podcast that allows us to step back and go into more detail about the resonating pieces we publish.

For our first podcast, we begin with a topic that has captivated, frustrated and confused students for years: campus politics.

Tadimeti was the Daily Bruin's Opinion editor from 2017-2019 and an assistant Opinion editor in the 2016-2017 school year. He tends to write about issues pertaining to the higher education, state politics and the administration, and blogs occasionally about computer science. Tadimeti was also the executive producer of the "No Offense, But" and "In the Know" Daily Bruin Opinion podcasts.

Academic student workers and graduate student researchers represented by the United Auto Workers union recently ended a nearly six-week strike in which they called for better working conditions and equitable wages. The contract stipulates pay increases for all workers – for some, pay increases of up to 80% – as well as anti-harassment policies and increased childcare support. However, the negotiations have struck controversy among some UAW members dissatisfied with the results of the contract. What are your thoughts on this issue? Only the voices of the bargaining team were heard during the negotiation process – the contract is not all-encompassing of student workers and should not have been ratified. The mediation resulted in a realistic contract for academic workers at this time. The agreed-upon result generally covered what the strikers were asking for. I have feelings about this that are not described in the options above. The contract is neither good nor bad and/or this issue does not directly affect me as a student.
