Gallery: UCLA men’s basketball ends Pac-12 tournament run with loss to Oregon State

No. 4 seed UCLA men’s basketball (17-9, 13-6 Pac-12) lost 83-79 to No. 5 seed Oregon State (15-12, 10-10) in Thursday’s quarterfinal matchup of the Pac-12 tournament at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Family members of the competing student-athletes sit in the stands to watch UCLA and Oregon State fight for a spot in the semifinals of the 2021 Pac-12 tournament in Las Vegas. Because of COVID-19 protocols, the tournament was closed to the public.

Junior guard Jules Bernard goes for a layup against Oregon State forward Maurice Calloo during UCLA’s first and only game in the tournament after losing in overtime. Bernard contributed a total of 19 points and 10 rebounds, making him UCLA’s top scorer for the contest.

Redshirt sophomore guard Tyger Campbell dribbles at top of the key during the second half.

Sophomore guard/forward Jaime Jaquez Jr. takes a shot with a foot set on the 3-point line during the first half. Jaquez scored 11 points overall, helping the Bruins secure a 10-point lead at the end of the first half.

Bernard charges toward the basket during the second half. Despite UCLA leading in the first half, the game went into overtime after Bernard made one of two free throws to tie it at 70 at the end of regulation.

Sophomore guard Johnny Juzang pulls up for a jump shot from beyond the arc. Juzang had a total of 12 points throughout the course of the game, but the tally was not enough to overcome Oregon State’s four-point margin at the end of overtime.

Coach Mick Cronin screams out plays to Campbell as he brings the ball up the court. Thursday marked Cronin’s first time coaching in the Pac-12 tournament as last year’s tournament had been canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reaching for a rebound under Oregon State’s basket, Jaquez falls short of securing an extra two points for the Bruins in the first half. Jaquez was later ejected from the contest after adding five personal fouls to UCLA’s tally of 23, giving Oregon State the opportunity to come back at the line late in the game.

UCLA players regroup during a timeout before play resumes in the second half.

Redshirt junior forward Cody Riley dives for the loose ball before the refs blow the whistle to call for a jump ball. Riley, who contributed seven points overall, was out of the game after picking up his fifth foul late in the second half.

Campbell follows through on a jump shot while guarded by Oregon State forward Warith Alatishe in the final minutes. Alatishe scored a career-high 22 points against UCLA, putting Oregon State in the lead by one point with 11 seconds left in regulation.

After turning the ball over on a fast break in the final seconds of overtime, Bernard walks off the court with assistant coach Michael Lewis.
