Emily Henschel, a third-year communication student attending a Bruin Democrats watch party at Royce Hall, said living with parents with an opposing political ideology causes tension within her family. She said she considers herself a liberal Democrat, but her parents are conservative Republicans, adding that she is nervous about the results of the election.

“My dad loves making jokes about trans people, even though he knows that I’m friends with a lot of trans people, and that really hurts me,” Henschel said. “He claims that he cares, but then he goes and votes for Trump, which is automatically a vote against the lives of trans people.”
