Former UCLA defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn will be returning to the Rose Bowl in the same post – only this time, wearing cardinal and gold for crosstown rival USC.
Ikaika Malloe, who was formerly a defensive line coach, took over for Lynn and seemed to make a seamless transition.
“Obviously, our defense – you see what we do: We’re fast. We’re physical. We fly around. And that’s where coach Malloe comes in,” said redshirt senior linebacker Kain Medrano. “He instills that. … It’s always the same thing, fast and physical.”
Under Malloe’s tutelage, the Bruins boast the nation’s eighth-best rushing defense, holding opponents to 3.32 yards per rush.
“We knew what we had in coach Malloe,” said coach DeShaun Foster. “He’s a great coach. He’s coached a bunch of first-rounders. … This isn’t anything shocking with what’s happening with the defense right now.
