UCPD arrested one person Friday after an indecent exposure incident in Kerckhoff Coffeehouse.
The suspect is registered as a sex offender with the Santa Monica Police Department, according to a post by UCPD on the social media platform X. The suspect – who has no affiliation with UCLA – was arrested at 12:58 p.m. inside Kerckhoff Hall, following an eyewitness report from a student who said the suspect approached them and began to masturbate, said Acting Operation Bureau Captain Jeffrey Chobanian in an emailed statement.
The suspect was later moved to Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles around midnight Saturday, according to LA County Sheriff’s Department records. The suspect had previously been arrested by UCPD for misdemeanors in April, August and November this year and by another state agency in August 2023, according to LASD records.
UCPD reported another indecent exposure incident Oct. 15. but does not believe the incidents are connected, Chobanian said in the statement. He added that students who experience indecent exposure should report it to UCPD.
“If you see someone in a scenario like this, always seek safety first and contact the police as soon as possible,” Chobanian said in the statement.
