A petition on change.org calling for UCLA to move to remote instruction until Jan. 19 has gained over 1,600 signatures as of 10:45 p.m. Friday. The petition also calls for the decision to be communicated promptly so students can arrange safe travel.

“This is a matter of health, equity, and responsibility,” the petition reads. “Students, faculty, and staff should not be forced to choose between their education or jobs and their safety.”

UCLA Chancellor Julio Frenk previously announced classes will be held online Monday, with the academic senate yet to make a decision about the rest of the week. There are currently no evacuation warnings or notices covering the UCLA campus as of 10:45 p.m.
