More than 38,000 acres have burned across ongoing fires in Los Angeles County, according to Cal Fire.
The Palisades fire, which is closest to the UCLA campus, currently has a size of 22,660 acres and is 11% contained, according to Cal Fire. Although evacuation warnings have been issued to areas bordering the campus, there is no evacuation warning or order for the campus itself as of 12:22 p.m.
Air quality on the campus as of 12:22 p.m is reported as moderate, according to the UCLA air quality website. However, the LA County Department of Public Health previously declared a countywide public health emergency.
Classes will be online until at least Monday, with the UCLA Academic Senate yet to make a decision on instruction for the rest of week two, said Chancellor Julio Frenk in a Friday evening campuswide email. A petition for classes to be moved online until next Friday has received more than 3,500 signatures, and all 15 members of the Undergraduate Students Association Council called for classes to be moved to remote instruction for week two.

It is likely that the campus could fall under an evacuation warning, two senior campus administrators said in a Saturday morning email. Students living in UCLA Housing have been asked to fill out a form indicating whether they are still in their university-owned housing.
In the event of an evacuation order, UCLA will transport students living on the Hill from Pauley Pavilion to an off-campus location, the administrators said in the email, adding that students living in university apartments should report to Tipuana Apartments with a single bag or suitcase.
