Demonstrators gathered as early as 4:30 am. Thursday, said Genevieve Ortiz, a union staffer. Hundreds of AFSCME Local 3299 members had gathered in Bruin Plaza as of 7:05 a.m., with tents, food and coffee.
“We are fighting against unfair labor practices here at the UC, so we’re gathered to fight for the UC to bargain in good faith with us,” Ortiz said.
