Holly’s elevators sucked.
I lived on the ninth floor of De Neve Holly last year. It felt like every other day, one or both of the elevators had some problem or needed to be shut down for maintenance. This made my trip back into my dorm a nightmare some days since many other residents would be coming up as well.
When there was one elevator in operation, a line would form, bottlenecking anyone’s ability to get to their desired destination within the building. It felt like waiting an eternity only to have the privilege of becoming a sardine within the elevator, to then wait until you reach your floor.
If you were able to choose not to use the elevator, you would, at worst, need to walk up to your dorm room all the way up to the 10th floor. I only ever had the second-worst walk up the stairs in Holly.
I feel horrible for anyone who had the displeasure of dealing with these elevators, but I do not feel bad for anyone who lived on the third and fourth floors. Those guys could have taken the shortest walk up the stairs.
Instead, some of them also brought their electric scooters with them into the elevators to make the experience even more unpleasant.
I always knew about the issues within Holly, but I never knew until reading your Daily Bruin article that UCLA had been neglecting the elevator situation in not just my building.
I hope UCLA does something to address this problem.
