Six people attempted to steal items from an occupied off-campus residence around 4 a.m Thursday.
Four men and two women entered the residence through an unlocked door, according to a Clery Timely Warning crime alert. A resident reported that they all appeared to be 18 to 22 years old and that one of the men had tattoos on his chest and left arm, according to the alert.
The same man was reported to be wearing only his underwear and tennis shoes, according to the alert. The incident occurred hours after the “Undie Run” – a quarterly tradition where students run in their underwear from the intersection of Strathmore Drive and Gayley Avenue to Dickson Plaza at midnight the Wednesday of finals week.
In compliance with federal law, UCPD releases Clery Timely Warnings when certain crimes are reported on or near the UCLA campus.
The residence’s occupants are UCLA students, according to the report. The alert also said a resident confronted the suspects as they left and recovered the stolen items.
An on-campus robbery also occurred early Thursday morning outside the Engineering VI building on Westwood Plaza, where a person knocked a UCLA student from their bicycle and stole their phone. UCPD did not respond to a request for comment on whether or not the incidents were related.
Five people also struck a student in the face and took a student’s clothes in Dickson Plaza during last quarter’s Undie Run.

UCPD did not respond to a request for comment on the off-campus incident.
