A UCLA football player was arrested Friday for an alleged felony incident.

Pierce Clarkson, a redshirt sophomore and UCLA’s backup quarterback, was arrested Sept. 5 by LAPD’s Southwest Division, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department inmate locator. Clarkson – whose bail was set for $30,000 – was released on bond later that same day, according to the locator, and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 3.

“We are aware of the charges against Pierce Clarkson,” a spokesperson for UCLA Athletics said in a written statement to the Daily Bruin. “He has been indefinitely suspended from all team activity pending the outcome of the legal process.”

The spokesperson added in the statement that the UCLA Office of Student Conduct would evaluate the situation but did not specify the exact charges Clarkson faced.

Clarkson was slated to back up redshirt sophomore quarterback Nico Iamaleava this season but has yet to appear in a game. He started his collegiate career at Louisville, where he spent two seasons with the Cardinals. After two seasons at Louisville, the quarterback entered the transfer portal Dec. 18 and committed to Ole Miss Jan. 13. Clarkson’s time with the Rebels was short-lived, and he re-entered the transfer portal April 24, committing to UCLA May 13.

The Bellflower, California, local was a highly touted prospect coming out of St. John Bosco High School. The four-star recruit was the No. 15 quarterback in the nation and No. 28 prospect in California, per ESPN. As a senior, he led a nationally No. 1-ranked St. John Bosco team to a CIF Southern Section D-I championship.

The LAPD Southwest Division did not respond in time to requests for comment on the arrest and alleged charges.
