UCPD temporarily blocked off streets in Westwood Village following reports of a robbery Tuesday night.

About eight police vehicles were stopped near the intersection of Westwood Boulevard and Weyburn Avenue at about 9:50 p.m. An officer told bystanders to leave the area as UCPD cars surrounded a pickup truck in front of Westwood’s Target.

Other police vehicles were stationed near Le Conte Avenue and Glendon Avenue around the same time.

UCPD stopped blocking parts of the Westwood Boulevard and Weyburn Avenue sidewalks at about 10 p.m.

Scott Scheffler, the captain of UCPD’s operations and administrative bureaus, said in an emailed statement that most officers had cleared the area by 10:30 p.m. He added in the statement that the potential robbery is still under investigation.

Scheffler did not respond in time to questions about the robbery itself, risks to public safety and whether or not arrests were made.
