The Daily Bruin covers breaking news relevant to the UCLA community as it happens. This page covers the Nov. 17 and 18 UC-wide strike led by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3299, which represents nearly 40,000 patient care, service and skilled craft workers.

  • AFSCME Local 3299 has alleged that the UC has failed to settle for a fair contract with its workers. The union has been in negotiations with the UC since January 2024, and the contracts of its patient care and service workers units expired in July 2024 and October 2024, respectively.
  • The UC Office of the President said in a Friday statement that AFSCME Local 3299 has not presented a “substantive counterproposal” in negotiations since April.
  • All residential dining halls – except for De Neve Residential Restaurant, Feast at Rieber, Epicuria at Covel and food trucks – will be closed during the duration of the strike, UCLA Housing and Hospitality said in an emailed statement.
