The sole candidate for Undergraduate Students Association Cultural Affairs commissioner said she hopes to continue cultural art galleries during a Wednesday debate for her re-election.
The USA Elections Board and the Daily Bruin co-hosted a series of debates between candidates in the upcoming USAC election. Divine Trewick, a third-year music industry and sociology student, is running unopposed to be Cultural Affairs commissioner.
Trewick said she plans to promote diversity and equity through continuing the Cultural Affairs Commission’s Art Galleries, which showcase work from different cultures. She added that she aims to host a LGBTQ+ Pride art gallery next academic year.
“I’m going to continue our Philippine Latina gallery, Indigenous Expression gallery and Dia De Los Muertos,” she said. “This year we had the Black Diaspora gallery – (it’s) the first time we’re having our AAPI gallery.”
Trewick said in her platform statement that she believes CAC’s work is more important given the Trump administration’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiative rollbacks. She added in her platform that she hopes to continue CAC’s Arts Restoring Community fund, which supports on-campus arts and cultural events.
“These art galleries are important because I meet the students that come up to me telling me how much it matters to them,” she said.
