Moving in and moving out – kissing The Bruin goodbye -30-

I’ve been moving in and out of the new and old for as long as I can remember. Whether moving cities, schools, friend groups or fashion choices, change was often the rhythm of my routine.

One thing never changed, however: my passion for journalism.

I’ve always loved writing, public speaking, reporting and videography. You best believe I always found a way to do all four.

It all started with filming news broadcasts on my Nokia in third grade. I eventually upgraded to editing YouTube videos in middle school. I then wrote for the newspaper and competed in speech and debate in high school, as well as performed in musicals and plays.

When I got into UCLA, one thing was immediately clear to me: I needed to join the Daily Bruin.

It was a goal I knew I had to achieve because every time I imagined myself at UCLA, long before getting the infamous acceptance letter, I saw myself as a reporter on this beautiful campus. I wanted to be a part of the lively nature and close community that is UCLA. More than that, I wanted to be able to share those experiences with others.

What better way to do that than by capturing people’s voices and stories through video?

The Daily Bruin Video section gave me that opportunity – and for that I will forever be grateful.

I am forever grateful for how quickly I felt a part of the community I could have only dreamed of as a child, watching Hollywood films back in Poland. I am forever grateful for the many people I met at The Bruin who taught me so much about myself, journalism, collaboration and a true dedication to one’s craft. I am forever grateful to have experienced the many challenges and proud moments that a top editor is bound to have during their tenure.

Lastly, I am forever grateful to The Bruin for keeping my passion alive while at college. Who says you can’t do what you love nearly 6,000 miles from home?

As I end my tenure as Video director, the end of my two years at The Bruin and my time at UCLA, I would like to give my second home a goodbye I know best. A Polish goodbye with three kisses. One to The Bruin, one to UCLA and one to everyone I met along the way.
