UCPD is investigating an alleged sexual battery in Olympic Hall that occurred Monday.
The incident occurred inside the victim’s dorm room at midnight Monday, according to a Thursday UCPD Clery Timely Warning. Both the victim and suspect were UCLA students, the alert said.
The victim has not taken legal action as of Thursday, according to the alert.
UCPD is assessing the situation and working to address public safety concerns, said Jeffrey Chobanian – the captain of UCPD’s operations bureau – in an emailed statement.
The victim notified UCPD of the incident after it occurred, Chobanian said in the statement. He added that anyone wishing to report similar incidents should contact UCPD.
The Title IX Office and the Office of Residential Life are managing the incident and providing affected parties with resources and information about their rights and options, according to the alert. The Title IX Office investigates incidents of sexual assault, gender discrimination and other violations of the federal gender discrimination law.
The Title IX Office and the Office of Residential Life did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
UCPD shared several resources in the alert, including the Campus Assault Resources and Education office – which provides confidential support to survivors of sexual violence – and information about UCLA’s Title IX policies.
“The department remains committed to supporting those involved and keeping the UCLA community safe,” Chobanian said in the statement. “If you start to feel concerns about a person or a situation, trust your instincts and try to remove yourself as quickly as possible from the potential threat, even if it is someone you know and even if it feels awkward to leave.”
