Ethnomusicology festival highlights world cultures through dance, music

Musicians cloaked in swirling blue and red robes pluck delicately at zheng zithers, string instruments that originated in China almost two thousand years ago. After I didn’t know what to expect from 2011’s release of The Vaccine’s first studio album, “What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?,” I formed high expectations that were prematurely disappointed by the band’s 2012 sophomore album, “Come Of Age.” With “English Graffiti,” The Vaccines paint a bright future for itself but left me with mixed feelings. Album Review: ‘The Desired Effect’

Most frontmen who break away from their Grammy-nominated bands seem to lose inspiration; Brandon Flowers, on the other hand, continues to improve his solo career with his new album, “The Desired Effect.” The album was recorded by Battle Born studios, mixed by Alan Moulder and produced by Flowers and Ariel Rechtshaid, who has produced songs for other popular indie artists such as Vampire Weekend.
