UCLA Big Band Holiday Concert features a variety of jazz sounds, from Latin to fusion

Discordant notes ring through the air as Bobby Rodriguez's LatinJazz class tunes their instruments. Rodriguez comes into the room, handing out sheet music to each student before rushing back out to settle another matter, only to enter again a couple minutes later. Director Bobby Rodriguez’s UCLA Big Band rehearses for its upcoming performance at today’s Big Band Holiday Concert. Three different ensembles will be featured: Rodriguez’s LatinJazz Big Band, Charley Harrison’s Jazz Orchestra and Kenny Burrell’s Jazz Fusion Ensemble. The event is called a holiday concert, but holiday-themed music will not be played by any of the groups.
