Artist’s spectre lingers in her art

Eva Hesse, dead at 34, lives again. Although the artist of German origin died in 1970 of a brain tumor, her ghost is currently on display at the Hammer Museum in a phantasmagoric collection of early paintings from 1960. Read more...

"Eva Hesse Spectres 1960," features a collection of 19 rare oil paintings by contemporary German artist Eva Hesse. The untitled, semi-representational works were a precursor to her signature work with minimalist sculptural installations. The exhibition will be on display at the Hammer through Jan. 2, 2011.
