Theater review: ‘Irving Berlin’s White Christmas’

Although Los Angeles doesn’t get snow, the stage production of “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas” provides plenty of holiday spirit and song. “White Christmas,” which opened Tuesday at the Pantages Theater and runs until Sunday, revels in the classic song and dance of 1950s Broadway musicals, providing a lighthearted way to ring in the holiday season. Student’s music career set to scale up with upcoming album

Ten-year-old Sofia Zorian belted the lyrics of her original song “Spies in Disguise” into the bristles of a hairbrush before an imaginary crowd. Zorian, now a fourth-year English student, is in the process of releasing the music video for her debut single, “Feeling,” in November and will launch her first album, “Involved,” in January. Singer-songwriter Nia Andrews finds voice in work with Lauryn Hill, Solange

Nia Andrews was grinding cardamom pods to make homemade chai tea when Solange Knowles texted her, inviting her to record. The UCLA alumna turned professional singer-songwriter poured her tea into a tumbler and headed to a Los Angeles studio to record the interlude “I Got So Much Magic You Can Have It,” which appears on Knowles’s 2016 album “A Seat at the Table.” Andrews now uses her musical talents to create and perform music of her own. Alumni Band creates community for graduates passionate about UCLA, music

The director raised his arms and began to conduct, and the rich sound of 125 students playing brass, woodwinds and percussion filled the auditorium. David Pardess sat in the front row at the first UCLA marching band practice, playing his piccolo and feeling excitement and anticipation for the rest of the 1967 season. Read more...
