CollegeRoots, a new music site launched by UCLA students, aims to promote college artists

Founder of CollegeRoots, a current UCLA student, shares his inspirations and passions for the music website

Apr. 6, 2012 – Fourth-year business economics student Ritesh Gupta has embraced the stereotype of the college rock band and taken it to another level. He founded collegeroots.com, a website specifically designed to connect listeners with artists affiliated with universities and colleges around the United States. His passion for entrepreneurship has fueled the rapid rise of CollegeRoots, which recently hit 20,000 listens on the site. While he balances multiple jobs and being a full-time student, he makes time for CollegeRoots. It’s become much more than just a pet project and weekend hobby.

The L.A. BlueGrassHoppers is UCLA’s bluegrass and old-time style ensemble that returned from a seven-year hiatus when UCLA ethnomusicology alumnus Tommy Stanton brought the group back four years ago. The group’s instrumentation includes the banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar and bass.
