How the Trump administration’s revamp of funding guidelines could threaten research

The federal government’s proposal to overhaul research grant funding processes could have detrimental effects on scientific research, UCLA researchers said. The United States Office of Management and Budget proposed significant revisions to its Uniform Guidance – a framework for managing federal grants – in May, which would expand the office’s authority over research institutes, allowing it to suspend and cancel grants, restrict allowable costs and ban international collaboration. Life sciences department may force botanical club to vacate greenhouse space

UCLA’s life sciences department is pressuring a student-run botanical club to vacate an educational greenhouse it has used for the past two years, students said. The UCLA Botanical Club uses a greenhouse in the Plant Growth Center located near the UCLA Mathias Botanical Garden to maintain hundreds of plants, including dozens of orchid species, more than 30 species of carnivorous plants and California native plants, said Nikita Burger, the club’s 2025-26 president. A new UCLA fellowship will provide arts-based mental health workshops for healthcare workers and civic leaders experiencing stress and burnout. Man sentenced for stealing, replacing rare Chinese manuscripts from UCLA libraries

A man was sentenced Wednesday for stealing more than $200,000 worth of rare Chinese manuscripts from the UCLA Library system.
