UCLA men’s basketball’s Myles Johnson to speak at graduate student commencement

Former men’s basketball player Myles Johnson will be the student speaker at the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering & Applied Science’s graduate student commencement. Johnson, who graduated in March with a master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering, announced in a tweet Monday that he will be speaking at the ceremony, which will be held June 18 at 1:30 p.m. Read more...

Student Sean Sugai highlights oceanic Filipinx studies with individualized course

USAC proposes resolution for expansion of COVID-19 protection measures

The Undergraduate Students Association Council proposed a resolution calling for UCLA to expand COVID-19 protection measures. The resolution – sponsored by Cultural Affairs Commissioner Alicia Verdugo and General Representative Eliana Sisman – calls for the reintroduction of a mask mandate, the continuation of vending machines for COVID-19 tests and the reinforcement of isolation guidelines. Meet ARTEMIS – the soccer-playing robot created by UCLA researchers

One of Luke Mariak’s favorite memories is of a Nike shoe on UCLA’s Intramural Field aiming toward a soccer ball. The shoe, however, was not his own — it was that of Advanced Robotic Technology for Enhanced Mobility and Improved Stability, or ARTEMIS, a soccer-playing robot built by researchers alongside Dennis Hong, a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering. UCLA-sponsored Grieving Sun Mural captures community expressions of grief

A UCLA-sponsored artist unveiled the Grieving Sun Mural, a community artwork project aimed at shedding light on the power of collective grief, on Wednesday. The mural, which was created by UCLA arts faculty and members of the wider Los Angeles community, was unveiled outside Perloff Hall alongside a soundscape of music, bird calls and recordings of people telling their stories of grief playing from nearby temporarily installed speakers. Student rally calls for UC to hire students without legal status, fair union wages

This post was updated May 18 at 10:23 p.m. Advocacy groups calling for the UC to hire students without legal status and fairly compensate union-affiliated workers held protests outside the University of California Board of Regents meeting Wednesday at the UCLA Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center.  Opportunity for All, a UC-wide student organization campaigning for equal access to employment and resources for students without legal status, held a rally that featured faculty and student speeches and a march to the Luskin Conference Center to form a picket line.
