DataRes offers opportunity to build data science skills, find supportive community

New communication Fiat Lux course examines voting amid ongoing election

As the 2024 presidential election nears, a small group of students gathers in Royce Hall to examine voter turnout. Communication 19: “Voter Participation and Engagement in 2024 Election” – a discussion-based Fiat Lux class offered for the first time this quarter – covers factors influencing voter registration, citizen engagement and polarization in the United States, said Georgia Kernell, the class’s instructor and a former member of the ASUCLA Communications Board, which publishes the Daily Bruin. Uniqlo founder gives $31M to UCLA to fund study of Japanese humanities

Japan’s richest man donated $31 million to the study of Japanese humanities at UCLA on Oct. 3. Tadashi Yanai, the president of Japanese retail company Fast Retailing – the parent company of clothing company Uniqlo – committed the donation to the Yanai Initiative for Globalizing Japanese Humanities.
