Solar umbrellas to open up outdoor charging opportunities on campus

An undergraduate student commission is drafting a proposal to install new solar umbrellas on campus. Students would be able to charge their phones, laptops and other devices if the umbrellas are installed, said undergraduate student government Facilities Commissioner Sandra Rhee. Read more...

UCPD releases annual Clery crime report for 2015

More robberies were reported on or around campus in 2015 than in 2014, according to an annual university police report released last week. The statistics come from Clery reports, which describe crime on and near the UCLA campus as required by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. Some students have been noticing changes in their Bruin Café chocolate milk and sandwich packaging in the last few months. UCLA Dining officials have been trying to transition to using solely paper sandwich wrappers to be more environmentally friendly. Read more...

Moon observation event at UCLA sheds light on lunar research

UCLA researchers and space enthusiasts observed the moon’s craters through a telescope on the roof of the Mathematical Sciences Building in Saturday’s evening. The UCLA Institute for Planets and Exoplanets hosted a moon observation event – one of hundreds held annually worldwide – to celebrate the scientific study and exploration of the moon, said Dave Milewski, a graduate student in earth, planetary, and space sciences.
