UC regents committee meets to discuss funding, alumni engagement

The UC Regents Public Engagement and Development Committee discussed government funding and alumni advocacy at their meeting Wednesday. During the meeting, the committee – which discusses fundraising and advocacy for the UC towards elected officials – announced funding received from Governor Gavin Newsom’s annual budget and heard presentations about funding for Black student centers. UC Regents appoints UCLA graduate student Sonya Brooks as 2025-2026 student regent

This post was updated July 21 at 8:41 p.m. The UC Board of Regents appointed Sonya Brooks as its student regent for the 2025-2026 academic year during its July meeting.  Brooks, who will be the first Black woman to hold the role of student regent, is a graduate student at UCLA pursuing both a master’s degree in public health and a doctorate in education. Alumnus’s donation establishes fellowship for study of Latinx communities and law
