Proposed LA city budget aims to address homelessness, fund police expansion

The Los Angeles City Council approved Mayor Karen Bass’ 2023-2024 city budget May 18 to draft a resolution for final approval. The $13.1 billion budget, which the council approved 13-1, funds a $1.3 billion investment to address homelessness, including $250 million for Inside Safe, an executive directive launched by Bass to help people experiencing homelessness move into temporary housing units. State of the Air report finds LA-Long Beach area has worst ozone pollution in US

A recent study by the American Lung Association found the Los Angeles and Long Beach area had the worst ozone air pollution in the country. According to the 2023 State of the Air report published April 19, nearly 120 million people across the United States live in counties that received an F for either ozone or particle pollution in 2023. UCLA’s expansion of digital registry advances efficient and representative research

UCLA researchers are expanding their digital registry for depression research recruitment beyond campus into the greater Los Angeles area. Created over a year ago, the registry is a collaboration between the UCLA Depression Grand Challenge – an initiative focused on cutting the global burden of depression in half by 2050 – and the UCLA Center for SMART Health, which aims to transform health care through the integration of new technology.
