US secretary of Veterans Affairs builds relationship with UCLA School of Nursing

Denis McDonough, the United States secretary of Veterans Affairs, visited the UCLA School of Nursing on Tuesday for a discussion with faculty and students. McDonough’s visit served to strengthen the partnership between UCLA and the VA at the start of Nurses Month and emphasize career opportunities in VA to student nurses and student nurse veterans. UCLA professor emeritus Judith Baca receives 2021 National Medal of Arts

The White House honored Judith Baca with one of the nation’s most prestigious awards for artistic excellence March 21. Across the country, graduate students organize after UC academic worker strikes

A ripple effect of university labor actions has followed the UC academic worker strikes, exposing long-standing issues with employment conditions in higher education. Graduate students at Temple University, a public university in Philadelphia, started a six-week long strike in January, calling for higher wages, health care benefits and better working conditions. Bruins rally for Iranian women in International Women’s Day march

Dozens of Bruins and protesters gathered in front of Royce Hall on Wednesday to denounce discrimination against women and political oppression in Iran. The event – organized by the Iranian Student Group at UCLA, Iranian Scholars for Liberty and Persian fraternity Sigma Pi Beta – was organized to amplify Iranian women’s voices and bring international attention to their repression, said Paria, a fourth-year cognitive science major and president of ISG, who requested to remain anonymous for safety reasons. Taking 12th grade math increases chances of college enrollment, UCLA study finds
