Wooden Center to begin 24-hour access in winter quarter

Students will have 24-hour access to the John Wooden Center starting Jan. 9. The extended hours will apply Monday through Thursday, and will include access to the center’s cardio, gym, group activity spaces and indoor areas for meetings and dance practices, according to a statement from UCLA Recreation. UCLA students protest against Dakota Access pipeline

More than 100 UCLA students chanted and waved signs that read, “You can’t drink oil,” and “Water is life,” on Janss Steps on Tuesday. The American Indian Graduate Students Association held a rally to protest against a gas pipe construction near the Standing Rock reservation in North Dakota, which is home to about 10,000 Sioux tribe members. USAC looks to expand off-campus housing resources for students

Bruin Consent Coalition offers support for sexual assault survivors

Students wrote supportive notes for sexual assault survivors, including “You are not your trauma” and “I believe you” on a blackboard Monday. Bruin Consent Coalition, a committee in the undergraduate student government Student Wellness Commission, held an event called “Scribble Your Support” on Kerckhoff Patio to support survivors, amid election season, said Chloe Pan, co-director of the coalition and a third-year international development studies and Asian American studies student. LA committee considers changing Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day

A Los Angeles city committee met last week to discuss replacing Columbus Day with a holiday that would celebrate Native Americans. The Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission presented a report in favor of establishing Indigenous Peoples Day to the Arts, Parks and River Committee. Read more...
