LA City Council introduces policies to protect immigrants without legal status

The Los Angeles City Council proposed new legislative policy Feb. 4 that would strengthen labor and immigration protections. The policy includes a citywide “Know Your Rights” campaign for immigrants without legal status, city notifications about United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement presence and nonprofit legal aid at LAX. UCLA study finds greater health inequities exist in minority communities

Californians’ race, sexuality and income are connected to inequities in health-related issues, according to a UCLA study. The California Health Interview Survey published by the UCLA Center for Health Policy found minorities have more negative health-related experiences. Read more...

USAC appoints Hip Hop Congress co-director as new Cultural Affairs commissioner

The Undergraduate Students Association Council will have a new Cultural Affairs commissioner for the first time in nearly three years. USAC unanimously voted to appoint Kyland Talbott, a fourth-year African American studies student, to the position during the council’s Tuesday meeting. Read more...

Veterans criticize UCLA’s continued use of VA property for athletics

On Jan. 10, over 200 veterans residing on the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Campus were evacuated due to the Los Angeles fires. The West LA VA Campus, a 388-acre property located just west of the Interstate 405 freeway, was originally deeded by private landowners to create an Old Soldiers Home. Read more...

Missing meteorite samples from UCLA collection found on eBay listing

But Utas – a graduate student studying earth, planetary and space sciences – said that in 2022 he found something particularly unusual on eBay, an online marketplace and auction site. Read more...
