UCLA professor Patrick Harran loses nomination as AAAS fellow

The American Association for the Advancement of Science, or AAAS, voted Tuesday to rescind UCLA professor Patrick Harran’s nomination to be a fellow. The association rescinded his nomination after learning the Los Angeles District Attorney filed felony charges in 2011 against Harran, a chemistry and biochemistry professor, for labor code violations that led to the death of one of his lab technicians. Napa Valley Grille to close temporarily for renovations

Officials will close Napa Valley Grille on Glendon Avenue Sunday to remodel its interior and renovate the outdoor patio. The California-themed restaurant, which features a bar, outdoor patio and private rooms, will be closed for three months, said Karlee Kunkle, spokeswoman for Tavistock Restaurant Collection, which operates the restaurant.
