A state legislator introduced a state Assembly bill last week that would cap annual compensation for all University of California employees at $500,000 a year. GSA votes against rejoining UCSA
The graduate student government voted unanimously Wednesday night to not rejoin the University of California Student Association because of concerns over membership fees. To rejoin UCSA, which advocates for UC students, the Graduate Students Association would have to pay about $16,000 annually for membership. Read more...

FDA advises continued use of medical device linked to superbug outbreak
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration advised hospitals Wednesday to continue using Olympus Corp. of Americas duodenoscopes, even though they were linked to the recent superbug outbreak at UCLA and are not currently FDA-approved for sale. Read more...

Transgender community seeks safer campus environment at protest
Zo Anthony Shay yelled Tuesday afternoon. He marched to Chancellor Gene Block’s office, demanding a safer campus for transgender students. At night, as candles flickered at a vigil at the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Campus Resource Center, Shay, a fourth-year ethnomusicology student and a transgender man, hugged his friends, thanking them for their solidarity. Course examining social aspects of Greek life to be offered for spring
Students will be able to take a course examining social behavior in Greek life through extensive discussion and artistic performances starting spring quarter. World Arts and Cultures 174A, a two-unit course titled “Desire on Campus: UCLA Sororities and Fraternities Move It Forward,” will take the form of an action conversation, which is a method of expression that includes deep discussion as well as dance and theater performances, said co-instructor Victoria Marks, a professor of choreography.
