Students mobilize in response to divestment resolution

Students are mobilizing for and against a resolution that calls for divestment from companies that profit from the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories. The Undergraduate Students Association Council is set to vote Tuesday on the resolution, which asks for the University of California to divest from specific companies that the resolution claims are complicit in the human rights abuses of Palestinians. Video contest to tackle issues of mental health

The University of California is inviting students to participate in an ongoing video contest to tackle issues of suicide prevention and mental health stigma. The UC will partner with a video contest called Directing Change, which is organized and funded by the California Mental Health Services Authority’s Student Mental Health Initiative, said Jana Sczerputowski, a program leader for Directing Change. UCLA student law group seeks improved campus climate

The UCLA Black Law Students Association met with the law school dean Monday about possible ways to improve campus climate for students of color. Students in the association discussed a letter they drafted to Law School Dean Rachel Moran and a petition that they launched on Friday. Read more...



UCLA professors elected to National Academy of Engineering

Two UCLA professors were recently elected to lend their engineering expertise to government officials on issues of science and technology. Chandrashekhar Joshi, an electrical engineering professor and Alan Willson, a professor emeritus in electrical engineering, were among the 67 new members elected to the National Academy of Engineering this year. Student input to be consulted in new library mug design

Students now have the opportunity to vote on a new design for a new UCLA library mug, which student leaders hope will reduce campus waste. Associated Students UCLA and Undergraduate Students Association Council Facilities Commissioner Armen Hadjimanoukian organized the redesign process. Read more...
