UC announces elimination of diversity statements in hiring processes

The UC announced Wednesday that it will no longer require diversity statements as part of hiring processes. The University has asked job applicants to explain how they would contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion at the university since the 2000s, according to the Los Angeles Times. Read more...

Pro-Palestine protesters, UCLA Faculty Association protest during regents meeting

Two separate groups protested on campus Wednesday, coinciding with a UC Board of Regents meeting at UCLA. Around 40 pro-Palestine protesters, many wearing keffiyehs and masks, gathered outside a UC Board of Regents meeting at the Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center to call for divestment from companies associated with the Israeli military. UC implements systemwide hiring freeze following federal, state threats to budget

The UC announced it would implement a systemwide hiring freeze in response to recent federal and state policies which threaten to cut the University’s budget. UC President Michael Drake announced the move in a Wednesday email, saying that recent policies implemented by President Donald Trump’s administration endanger the University’s education, medical and research funds. Protesters rally on day 1 of UC Regents meetings to denounce Israeli airstrikes

Around 150 people protested outside a UC Board of Regents meeting Tuesday to call for divestment from companies associated with the Israeli military and condemn the continuation of the Israeli military’s bombing of the Gaza Strip.  The protest – led by organizations including Students for Justice in Palestine at UCLA and the Palestinian Youth Movement’s Los Angeles, Orange County and Inland Empire chapter – began with a noon press conference in front of the Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center, where the regents are meeting from Tuesday to Thursday.
