Photo: Travis Lynn, a third-year mechanical engineering student, is one of the many student-veterans at UCLA who receive financial support from the federal GI Bill. The number of college-bound veterans this fall is predicted to increase by 30 percent from last year, to nearly half a million, and many of the veterans like Lynn benefit from the bill, which Congress passed in 1944 to help soldiers rejoin civilian life.
