Lecture outlines history of situation in Darfur

Students and community members gathered Tuesday evening to learn about the complex history behind the current conflict in Darfur. In a lecture titled “The Crisis in Darfur: A Concise History,” UCLA history Professor Edward Alpers outlined the political and historical factors that have led to a situation in which hundreds of thousands have died and even more have been displaced in the Darfur region of Sudan. Professor protests Satan’s modern image

While Professor Henry Kelly began studying God and the Bible to become a priest, he now studies Satan to better understand the biblical figure. A UCLA English professor emeritus, Kelly was training to be a Jesuit priest when he was younger and found many inconsistencies between the current depiction of Satan as the horned, evil ruler of hell and the Satan that was described in the Bible. UCLA asks for more hospital funds

UCLA officials asked the UC Board of Regents for an additional $308 million to complete construction on two new hospitals Tuesday. If the funding is approved, the Ronald Reagan Medical Center in Westwood will receive more than half the money, and the remainder will go to the UCLA-Santa Monica Medical Center. Read more...




Film examines suicide bombers

The documentary “Suicide Killers,” which was screened at UCLA on Tuesday night, opened with scenes of carnage and devastation that followed terrorist attacks in Israel. The film, a documentary on suicide bombers in Israel which was created by French-Israeli director Pierre Rehov, consists of interview footage involving failed suicide bombers and the planning behind their missions.
