BlaQue fosters community, supports Black LGBTQ+ students

Black LGBTQ+ Bruins are finding community and connection at UCLA despite the challenges they face on campus and the shift to virtual learning. BlaQue, a student organization under the Queer Alliance at UCLA and the Afrikan Student Union, is a student organization centering the experiences of Black LGBTQ+ students and addressing the issues facing their communities. LA County announces end to indoor mask requirement for fully vaccinated individuals

This post was updated Feb. 24 at 5:32 p.m. Los Angeles County will lift its indoor mask mandate in places requiring vaccine verification beginning Friday. Based on declining COVID-19 cases and test positivity rates, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced in a press release Wednesday that fully vaccinated individuals will no longer be required to wear masks indoors, provided businesses verify their vaccination status. UCLA study improves method to eradicate HIV-infected cells

UCLA researchers recently refined a new method to target and eliminate HIV-infected cells. The study, published Jan. 10, showed how the treatment, known as the kick and kill method, successfully destroyed human immune cells infected with a dormant form of HIV in mice. Read more...

Kristen Crowley nominated for next Los Angeles Fire Department fire chief

Academic student workers and graduate student researchers represented by the United Auto Workers union recently ended a nearly six-week strike in which they called for better working conditions and equitable wages. The contract stipulates pay increases for all workers – for some, pay increases of up to 80% – as well as anti-harassment policies and increased childcare support. However, the negotiations have struck controversy among some UAW members dissatisfied with the results of the contract. What are your thoughts on this issue? Only the voices of the bargaining team were heard during the negotiation process – the contract is not all-encompassing of student workers and should not have been ratified. The mediation resulted in a realistic contract for academic workers at this time. The agreed-upon result generally covered what the strikers were asking for. I have feelings about this that are not described in the options above. The contract is neither good nor bad and/or this issue does not directly affect me as a student.
