Disability rights advocate Judith Heumann spoke about the need to increase the accessibility of higher education in a Zoom lecture Thursday. Heumann has been advocating for disability rights since the 1970s and has worked on legislation including Section 504, the Individuals with Education Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act, and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, according to a UCLA press release. UCLA ethicists and neuroscientists recently collaborated with other researchers across the country to create a list of principles for ethical invasive brain research. Intracranial research uses invasive techniques inside the skull in order to answer fundamental questions about the brain and help provide treatments to patients with brain disorders that are untreatable with traditional methods, experts said. Students said the new Daily Symptom Monitoring Survey is helpful for COVID-19 safety but should be shortened for more convenience and to increase compliance. UCLA created the Daily Symptom Monitoring Survey in June 2020 to improve campus safety by asking students, faculty and staff whether or not they are exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19. Read more...
