Mentorship organization to build bridges between Bruins, professionals

A new student-run organization aims to provide professional mentorship for students. Bruin Bridges, which launched in April and held its first meeting Friday, connects students to leaders in various industries who will advise and mentor them. Read more...

Researchers suggest affirmative action could be beneficial to the economy

Researchers built an economic model showing that socioeconomic affirmative action at institutions of higher education could positively impact the economy. Bernard Herskovic, an assistant professor of finance at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, and Joao Ramos, a USC assistant professor of finance and business economics, showed in their report that affirmative action allows low-income students with high innate abilities to gain more income and social mobility than high-income students with low innate abilities. VA looks to move forward on West LA plan for housing homeless veterans

The Department of Veterans Affairs plans to build more than 1,000 housing units at its West Los Angeles campus. The VA held a public hearing Thursday to gauge public opinion for its plans to provide permanent supportive housing for veterans who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. Read more...

Dance Marathon 2018 raises $317,599 to fight pediatric AIDS

The Pediatric Aids Coalition at UCLA raised $317,599.29 at this year’s Dance Marathon, a $116,915.71 decrease from last year. The event, which PAC hosts annually, featured performances by student groups and outside performers, celebrity guest speakers and speakers from the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and the UCLA AIDS Institute.
