Student leaders are asking the university to be more transparent about how it spends the money from a mandatory fee for international students. UCLA Health has received certification to provide a therapy that genetically modifies patients’ own cells to attack cancer, the university announced Friday. The Food and Drug Administration approved the treatment, marketed as Yescarta, in October for patients with a type of blood cancer called large B cell lymphoma. Read more...

A California State Assembly candidate discussed the importance of combating censorship in scientific research at an event at Boyer Hall on Monday. Tepring Piquado, who is running to represent California’s 54th State Assembly district, said at the UCLA Science Policy Group’s monthly meeting that legislators must help reduce science censorship by being unbiased when making policy decisions that involve scientific research funding and publicity.
