UCLA students protest for comprehensive gun control laws

A nationwide political movement reached UCLA when students protested the lack of comprehensive gun control laws on campus Thursday afternoon. About 20 students gathered at Janss Steps to march around Royce Quad, chanting “Hey ho, hey ho, the NRA must go.” Sydney Sacker, a fourth-year communication student, said she organized the walkout on Facebook after being moved by Stoneman Douglas High School students advocating for gun control in Washington, D.C. UCPD arrests, charges man for sexual battery near UCLA

University police have arrested a man in connection with a battery and a sexual battery near UCLA. UCPD Lt. Kevin Kilgore said the department received a tip about the man and made contact with him at 4:10 p.m. Read more...

UCLA peer counseling program now accepts students without CAPS referral

Students no longer need a referral from a Counseling and Psychological Services counselor to meet with peer counselors. The UCLA Peer Counseling Program, which began in spring 2017, provides counseling to individuals who do not necessarily need clinical treatment but would still benefit from receiving assistance from their peers. UCLA alumnus, Nobel laureate speaks on cells, open-access research

A UCLA alumnus and Nobel laureate shared his latest research on RNA sorting into exosomes at a seminar Wednesday. More than 250 people packed into an auditorium in Geffen Hall to listen to Randy Schekman, who shared the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovering a set of genes required for intracellular transportation of molecules in sacs called vesicles. Los Angeles officials postpone meeting with Westwood Forward

City officials have rescheduled a meeting with student leaders that would determine whether they can hold an election for a new neighborhood council for Westwood. Westwood Forward, a coalition of students and community members proposing a new neighborhood council, is now scheduled to meet with the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners and the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment on March 13.
